United Way partner agencies directly address human and community needs which impact virtually every resident in our communities, because when you help a neighbor in need, you are helping yourself and every one around you.
While many of these agencies have a professional staff, for the most part, the work of the agencies is carried on or greatly amplilfied by the help and participation of community volunteers. This volunteerism enhances the value of your gift to the United Way.

- Access Inc. — Pine Bluff based ACCESS, Inc., is the largest and oldest teen pregnancy prevention agency in Jefferson County. The agency serves more than 200 pregnant and parenting teens in our community. Services for adolescents and their families include: pregnancy prevention education, parenting classes, prenatal information, a home visitation program for first time teen mothers and counseling.
ACCESS also provides education programs to churches, schools, and other organizations that serve youth in Jefferson County. The ACCESS resosurce center loans educational videos on decision-making, self-esteem, character building, growth and development and other related topics to parents of adolescents. ACCESS also provides emergency help with items such as diapers and formula to teen parents up to age 19.

- American Cancer Society
Mid-Southern Division, Arkansas
Promotes prevention and treatment of cancer, provides services and information to cancer patients and their families.
Supports major cancer research programs including the Arkansas Cancer Research Center. Sponsors Look Good-
Feel Better program and supports local anti-tobacco use.

providing disaster relief, help to victims of single-family fires, the blood donor program, service to military families and veterans, training in health and safety programs, CPR, first aid, and water safety. Volunteers provide a reassurance program for shut-ins. The Red Cross also provides international tracing to help locate family members lost during civil unrest and armed conflict.
870-534-7312 • http://www.redcross.org - American Social Health Association — Focusing on preventing sexually transmitted diseases and the harmful consequences of those diseases, ASHA works to improve the health of individuals, families and communities through advocacy, outreach, patient and provider education, and research. ASHA is the only nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to STD prevention and treatment.
It operates the National Herpes Resource Center and the National HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention Resource Center. - The Area Agency on Aging is a private, nonprofit agency providing programs and services since 1979 to help persons of all ages — with special emphasis on older persons. The agency's services are available in 10 southeast Arkansas counties. Services include in-home personal and skilled care, transportation, housing, case management and senior center services.
The agency serves approximately 600 hot noon meals at 16 senior centers. Area Agency employees also deliver more than 1,000 daily meals to the homes of eligible older persons. Volunteers play an important role in all Area Agency services.

It serves as a collection and distribution center for quality donated food and grocery products. The food is distributed to more than 450 nonprofit agencies and church food pantries that serve the hungry in 44 counties throughout Central and Southern Arkansas. Arkansas Foodbank Network serves more than 40 Southeast Arkansas agencies.

programs for boys and girls which promote character development, citizenship responsibilities, physical and moral fitness, leadership and outdoor skills. The Boy Scouts also provide in-school programs for latch-key children.

The club also offers organized athletics, performing arts, and other recreational activities.

The CASA Women’s Shelter provides services to women and children who have been physically and emotionally abused. CASA is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, providing shelter, counseling and advocacy to victims of domestic violence. CASA believes that women and children deserve to live in violence-free homes.

The purpose of this agency is to create a community culture that encourages, develops, and commends good character in individuals, families, faith organizations, schools, businesses, government, law enforcement and media outlets of our community.

The Children’s Advocacy Center brings professionals and agencies together as a multi-disciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. The goal is to ensure that children are not further victimized by the system designed to protect them. The Center provides a child friendly environment where children can be interviewed. Also offers crisis intervention to the child victim and the non-offending family.

Gifts in Kind Arkansas is an affiliate of Gifts In Kind International, the world’s leading charity in product contributions. G.I.K. International last year distributed more than $300 million in goods to nonprofit agencies. Girl Scouts-Diamonds Council — The Girl Scout program is an
informal educational program to help girls, ages five to 17, develop meaningful values and ethics, develop concern for the well-being of their community and its people, and to use their skills to work with others for the benefit of all. The program is carried out in small groups with adult leadership and provides a wide range of activities developed around the interests and needs of girls.

Jefferson County 4H is an informal educational program for
youth, ages nine to 19, from all social, economic and geographic areas. Active participation builds character, develops leadership and instills a determination to achieve, through more than 100 projects and activities. Jenkins Memorial Center provides therapeutic classes for people with disabilities from preschool through adult. The center also offers speech therapy, screening and audiometric testing plus occupational physical therapy.

Jenkins Industries — Adults with disabilities receive evaluation, training, and placement for sheltered competitive and productive employment. The program helps trainees make necessary adjustments for vocational independence with work training and sub-contracts.

The Literacy Council of Jefferson County helps students achieve life skills goals. Volunteers, staff and professionals teach basic literacy, GED, driver’s license and CDL acquisition, English as a Second Language, drug and alcohol prevention, family literacy and pre-employment skills The Literacy Council serves more than 1,200 of your neighbors.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor provides community information and acts as a referral service for those in need. Operates a food pantry for the low income elderly and those in need of emergency food. Provides a free hot meal at noon Monday through Friday. Provides clothing, emergency funds for medicines, eyeglasses, rent, utilities and transportation. Conducts special holiday programs supplying food and gifts. Provides school supplies for children. Offers free clothing and household goods for burn-out victims and others in need.

Jefferson County RSVP — Through RSVP, more than 900 adult and 138 youth volunteers share their experiences, abilities and skills through community service. The purpose of these programs is to meet critical community needs and to provide a high-quality experience that will enrich the lives of RSVP volunteers. RSVP also manages a youth service-learning program called SOS (Students with Opportunities to Soar), matching 10th - 12th grade students with responsible adult mentors. These teams perform volunteer service in safe environments affording marketable work experience to students.

The Salvation Army provides clothing, food, shelter and utility assistance to qualifying needy individuals and families. The Salvation Army also provides weekly character building, counseling, goal setting and personal encouragement. When appropriate, referrals are made to the Salvation Army alcohol and drug rehabilitation center. Salvation Army services are provided free of charge.

Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System deals with mental health, emotional, situational, marital, drug and stress related problems through outpatient, inpatient, psychosocial rehabilitation programs, case management, and emergency services 24 hours a day. The center offers comprehensive individual, family, marital, drug and group therapy for all ages, provided by mental health professionals and paraprofessionals.

The agency ensures the child’s needs and desires are communicated and met, and helps find safe and nurturing homes for children where they can thrive and become positive contributors to society.
- Youth Partners, Inc. is a partnership to generate collaboration among Jefferson County youth-serving organizations to ensure every child and youth of Pine Bluff /Jefferson County receive the Five Promises outlined in the President’s Summit of 1997. The agency is a referral center for youth and families seeking sources of help and a clearinghouse for volunteers to become directly involved with youth service organizations in Pine Bluff and Jefferson County.

Voices for Children, a Court Appointed Special Advocates program, uses caring community volunteers to investigate cases and provide factual information to the juvenile judge through a formal, written court report. The agency ensures the court understands how children are progressing in their environment, and conveys their hopes and desires to the judge.

Volunteers in Public Schools — This agency recruits, trains and places volunteers in the Pine Bluff School District. These volunteers help in classrooms, provide resources and professional services, and supervise special projects enhancing learning experiences for Pine Bluff School District students.
